Permitting an Engine
Your guide to getting your SCAQMD engine permit as quickly and hassle-free as possible.
Does My Engine Need an Air Permit?
If your engine emits air contaminants and is located in the South Coast Air Basin (SCAB), it most likely requires a permit from the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD), the agency responsible for controlling the area’s air quality.
Most SCAQMD permits are required to build, install, alter, or replace contaminant-emitting equipment, so it’s best to apply for your permit as early as possible in your process.
